Where we come from

We are former teachers of the Goethe-Institute Frankfurt and founded our own language school "Sprachgewandt" in March 2017.

Why are we "former" Goethe teachers?

In January 2017 the Goethe Institute Germany separated, at short notice, from all freelance teachers nationwide. This included more than 400 teachers throughout Germany (over 70% of the total teaching staff). The reason for this short-term situation, which was unpredictable for all teachers, was the fact that the state's German pension insurance (DRV) examined all German Goethe-Institutes and accused them of employing ficticious/pseudo self-employed workers. This situation also had negative consequences for the Goethe institute clients since many courses had to be canceled and the customers were offered no alternative.

We took this situation as a chance and founded our own language school within a very short period of time. Our courses have been running since the 6th of March 2017 and on May 1st, we moved to Börsenstraße 14, in the center of Frankfurt. With our pedagogical and didactic knowledge, which we have gained and extended over many years of teaching, we continue to teach with the well known Goethe quality.

We teach German as a foreign language and from autumn 2018 we will also include English language courses for adults as well as English courses for children and teenagers in our program. In addition, we offer creative workshops once a month where you can sew or learn other creative handicrafts. Here,  you also have the opportunity to practice German with other German learners and native speakers of German.

Are you interested in one of our language courses?  You are welcome to inform yourself about our German and English courses and prices or contact us at info@sprachgewandt-frankfurt.de.  We look forward to welcoming you to our language courses!

Best regards,

Franziska Becker and Heike Baumgärtel
